If you need to travel to Cork Hospitals as part of your cancer journey, Cancer Connect will get you there. The service is free, and will work around your own needs. We just ask for a weeks notice to book a voluntary Driver.
The radiotherapy service leaves each weekday from Rockchapel, Goleen, Youghal and Castletownbere, (based on demand) and travels to CUH and Bon Secours Radiotherapy Departments. Radiotherapy treatment is scheduled around passenger arrival times. For anyone that is set to receive radiotherapy treatment, tell the Department you will travel with Cancer Connect and they will be sure to schedule your appointment times around our timetable. Passengers are collected at an agreed stop, or from home, and brought to the door of the hospital by a voluntary Driver. When finished, the Driver will bring them home directly. Drivers will always stop for toilet breaks or a cup of tea for the journey. 8-seaters are usually used for radiotherapy transport - having company can make the journey much easier.
Passengers requiring Chemotherapy, or attending related appointments such as Consultant visits, scans, blood tests, wig clinics etc. are taken to Cork by car. These trips are organised on a ‘one to one’ basis. The appointment times are set by the hospitals and duration varies. Passengers may require a family member to travel too, which is facilitated and encouraged.
The transport service does not offer passenger assistance. However let us know if you have any mobility difficulties or are a wheelchair user and accessible transport can be made available.
