Cancer Connect is grateful for every cent raised for the service, all funds go towards providing transport to everyone in County Cork on a cancer journey. The funds are used to provide transport to individuals across the County that may otherwise struggle to get to their appointment. Staffing, administrative and operational costs such as management of 9 vehicles are necessary to ensure that delivery of the transport is safe, smooth, and always available to respond to the demand.
Cancer Connect's financial stability is supported by a diverse portfolio of income streams, ensuring the organisation's ongoing ability to deliver essential services and support to those affected by cancer. See previous annual reports for financial statements.
Since its inception, community fundraising has been the cornerstone of our funding model, providing a direct and a sustained means for the community to contribute to our mission. This includes events, campaigns and grassroots efforts that engage local supporters and volunteers. Events such as Threshings, swims and coffee mornings generate vital income. Our vision has always been a shared income stream, where the community partially funds the service alongside State Support - this gives local control and allows the community to shape the service. Fundraising locally also raises awareness of Cancer Connect and promotes the service greatly. Thinking of holding an event? Complete our event proposal form here.
Donations from people that may have used the service, family or friends, or those that see the value of what is being provided, form a significant part of our income. These donations reflect the generosity of individuals who are committed to supporting our work and making a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families. Private companies can contribute substantially, local and national businesses partner with us through sponsorship, donations and corporate social responsibility initiatives. By backing our work, a company can demonstrate genuine corporate social responsibility - showing that they care about the health and well being of the community. Bon Secours Cork have already embraced this, sponsoring a radiotherapy vehicle, as Boston Scientific (a previous charity partner) who sponsored a chemotherapy car, alongside the Emer Casey Foundation. To name just a few that have funded hundreds of life-saving journeys. We have tailored options for corporate support.
Funding for Cancer Connect was announced in December 2025, with €150,000 announced as annual allocation for a three year period. This funding provides crucial support. The Irish government has recognised the value of our service, and we are grateful for the partial funding we receive thanks to the support of An Taoiseach and the Minister for Health. This recognition affirms the vital role we play in the health system. Yet, despite this support, approximately two-thirds of our cost - vehicles, fuel, maintenance, volunteer coordination, and ongoing development - must be generated from other resources.
Where eligible, Cancer Connect applies for grant aid to support the service. Historical grants have been received from organisations such as the Hospital Saturday Fund, Cork County Council and Clár. These grants enable us to enhance our services in specific areas.
